Since October is upon us I decided it was time to get out the fall decorations and bid welcome to Autumn and Halloween.  Every year I open the box and wonder what in the world am I doing with all this crap, um I mean stuff.  Packed to the brim the box contains, everything from plastic pumpkins to screaming skull heads.  At one time years ago all these items made their way to every nook and cranny in my house.  Shelves were perches for witches and ghosts, the kitchen table held the bowl of treats complete with a moving hand and a rattling, bony skeleton hung from the front door.  Yep, I was really into it.  I remember Halloween nights when my front porch was aglow with jack-o-lanterns, my calderon was out complete with eerie green fog, my creepy music floated through the air and I'd plunk myself in a chair right outside my door completely disguished in my witch's outfit, greeting trick-or-treaters, or at least the ones that would brave the path to my door.  It was great fun and my kids would bring all their pals over for a look at their crazy Mom and to share cider and snacks while they sorted, counted and traded the goodies they collected. 

As I set about deciding which of the items from the box I wanted to actually use this year, I wondered if my kids would be decorating their homes for Halloween, would they buy and carve pumpkins, would they put on a witch's outfit or any costume at all, would they even be home to pass out treats. 

Maybe it isn't one of their top priorities right now, but I can nudge them along the path of fun, drop a hint,  perhaps alittle something to get them started....I think I'll pack up  "surprise" packages and ship each of them one and then I'll be able to get a smaller box!
