Fear of the first haircut

Okay, I admit it. I always thought little boys with long hair looked, well, silly. I mean, really. If he wants to grow his hair when he's a rebellious teenager, fine. But if he starts out with long hair all his life, that little rebellion isn't an option and we're into piercings and tattoos.

So here I am, galavanting around town with a 15-month-old whose hair easily could go into a ponytail. And I can't cut it. And I don't know why. Part of it, I think, is that Nicholas' hair is all in the back. Making for, as my friend Melissa pointed out, an organic mullet. He's just starting to get hair on top. And his curls are so pretty! My mom always talked about how lovely my brother's hair was until my dad got sick of hearing what a beautiful daughter he had and made her get it cut (no, she doesn't think Nicholas needs a haircut, either).

My friend has twin boys younger than Nicholas, both of whom have been through several haircuts already. So I don't know what my problem is. But I'm going to have to figure it out soon and get on the stick. Or we'll see if Nick can single-handedly bring back the mullet.

Don't cut it! Mullets aren't a bad thing. Business in front, party in the back!

Mattingly has the same predicament now. I had to get his bangs cut last week because they were so long despite also being curly. Now he has business in the front and a party in the back, so to speak.
