Final Journey
I did not write on my blog last week, I was out of town and did not have my computer with me. I took my son to Oregon so he could be with his dad, this was Dustin’s final journey and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is where Dustin wanted to be. As I packed for this long 12-hour drive I could sense Dustin with me all day, his scent was strong as I moved from room to room. As I checked off items from my list to pack I saw that I had written “Dustin” on my list and I thought to myself, I can’t leave Dustin behind, he is the reason that I am making this trip to Oregon. We headed out early Thursday morning and I prayed that God would keep us safe on this trip. We stopped in Redding for fuel; after we finished fueling we were pulling out when a man in a white van pulled up in front of our RV and said your front left tire is flat. We thought maybe the tire was low because surely we would have noticed a flat tire. Sure enough it was flat, two hours later it was repaired and we were back on the road. I felt so strongly that we had a guardian angel watching over us, had we got back on the freeway with the flat it would not have turned out good.
We stopped in Roseburg, Oregon for fuel again. As I was walking inside to pay there was a penny standing upright on the sidewalk in front of me, I probably would not have given this penny a second thought if it was laying flat but it was standing up, I picked it up and added it to my collection of other coins that I have been finding.
It was good to see Dustin’s grandparents again; I just wish the reason for our trip was for different reasons. On Friday we took Dustin to his final resting place to be with his dad and great-grandfather. We held a little ceremony, it was very emotional and it was hard for me to leave Dustin behind but I knew this was something I had to do. The family all had dinner that night and I was totally wiped out when we got back to their house. I went to bed and slept 8-hours straight; that is unusual for me. After a late breakfast we decided to start heading home and drove for several hours and stayed overnight near the California/Oregon border. On Sunday morning we got back on the road and drove all day and got back into town Sunday evening. The long drive did us in and we were both exhausted when we got home.
I went back to work on Tuesday and on Wednesday while I was looking at something on line I scrolled to the bottom of the page to look at the comments and it said “Dustin was logged in”. I called my secretary into my office to see this. I closed what I was looking at and went back online and it still showed Dustin was logged in. It was really strange. A few minutes later I looked under my desk and found a dime, I added this to my coin collection as well. I told my husband about seeing Dustin “logged on” and we was sure that there had to be a logical explanation for that. There was one; Dustin was visiting his mom; that was good enough for me.
