forever young

I have to confess that I am currently 47 years old...perhaps "confess" isn't the right word. I don't think that "admit" would be the right fit either. Oh well. Let me just say that I am 47 years old and frankly, I really don't care who knows it.

The years I have lived and breathed here on this planet is but a number made plainly clear when my 70 year old father has recently completed his 15th RAGBRAI event along with his tales of how he manages to routinely best men more than half his age. I certainly don't aspire to out-do ladies half my age anytime soon in anything nor am I planning on joining dear old Dad on the next RAGBRAI event because I just can't get excited about sleeping on the ground in some farmer's field in a pup tent after riding 100+ miles on a bike everyday for five days. I loves my Dad and I have done my share of century bike rides in the past but I haven't camped since I was 6 months pregnant with my 15 year old daughter, Abby.  Sorry, it just isn't who I am. I will rough it in a hotel room...trust me, sleeping in a hotel room with a snoring hubby and 4 kids with one tiny bathroom is rough.

I do believe in that old saying that "you are as young as you feel". I have all the grown up responsibilities that come with being married for more than 25 years, raising 5 children, spoiling a grandbaby and finding time for a career but somedays I just feel like a big kid. That must be why I got carded the other day in Target for buying Sharpie markers...a jumbo pack of Sharpies. Of course my children were just mortified especially given the fact that I was all smiles and giggles when I pulled my driver's license out for the young clerk. What can I say? She made me smile. She made me laugh too when I had to help her figure out how old I would be being born in 1962. It's okay. I get hung up on that complicated math too. It's hard without a calculator and yes, I am now old enough that one needs a calculator to figure out my chronological age.

But it is just and will remain nothing more than a number.

Adventures in Juggling

With five kids from young adult to teens to pre-teen to school aged (with special needs), a brand new grandbaby, a husband and a busy career as a neonatal intensive care nurse, what else would I be doing but juggling? My life is a circus and I wouldn't have it any other way. This is my adventures in juggling.
