An invaluable find

You know that great feeling when you find $5 in the pocket of a coat you haven't worn for a while? I got that a couple of days ago when I was changing purses and found something worth much, much more: a toothbrush from my dentist, still encased in its packaging.

Toothbrushes are valuable commodities around here of late, since Nicholas has developed a liking for them that borders on addiction. Anytime he passes by a bathroom, he points at the holder and hollers, "Foofbus!"

And he carts one around constantly. A woman in Raleys (where a cute smile and wave nearly always results in a free cookie at the bakery) complimented me on Nicholas' early dental hygiene habits. Sure, I said, but most kids wait until they're FINISHED eating before brushing their teeth.

Some parents hide candy from their children (I'm looking at you and your Skittles here, Doug Funny). Some even hide alcohol. Me, I have to brush my teeth on the sly. I've had to warn overnight guests to keep a careful eye on their toothbrushes. It wouldn't be so bad if he just used them for their intended purpose, but the last one of mine Nicholas snagged he used to clean the fireplace hearth. As for my purse discovery, because I am a saint, I gave it to my husband. We finally found his old one jammed between the sofa cushions.

On the bright side, our fireplace and sofa are very unlikely to develop cavities.
