King Tut and Prince Nicholas
The other day we went to San Francisco to see the King Tut exhibit at the deYoung Museum. Which, by the way, was amazing. If you haven't gone, you should, before it leaves in March. While waiting for our appointed time to go in, we wandered over to the nearby Japanese Tea Garden. Though the Tut exhibit left Nicholas pretty much cold - and, for much of it, fast asleep - he loved the tea garden. He got to climb around, look at fish, and soak up attention from his sister Emily and her friend Camille (who, it's generally agreed, Nicholas believes he is dating).
I remembered the last time we visited the tea garden. The girls were 6, I think. They wore tie-tyed dresses we'd bought them. It was another fun day, scampering around Golden Gate Park. To me, it seems like just the other day. But then I look at the girls, and somehow they've turned into young women, getting ready to head off to college. And they wouldn't be caught dead in a tie-dyed dress.
It's just another reminder that it goes by so, so fast. So if I have a New Year's resolution, it's to appreciate it while it lasts. To feel every hug, to accept any kiss I can get. And to always, always stop what I'm doing when Nicholas remembers to add the "pease" to the "up" request.
Happy New Year.
