Late Again!!!
When I was a kid I used to wonder why my Mom was always late everywhere she went. Worst of all she was late getting us to school on time. I even got kicked out of the car pool when I was a freshman in high school when she had her boyfriend drive us (so we wouldn't be late) and he got pulled over, cuffed and put in the back of a patrol car for driving without a license. We were beyond late that day. Fun Times!!! Before I was a Mom I couldn't understand why she couldn't just leave earlier and get to appointments, school, Christmas dinner at Grandma's.....ON TIME.
Being a Mom with a child who has just started school, ...I totally understand now. In my overextended world I now finally get it. With working full time I have guilt that drives me to try to be all things to all people all of the time. Remember the folder with the picture money, remember the lunch, the jacket, and BLAST I forgot the library book AGAIN! My Mom was late because she was trying to remember all this stuff. Her heart was in the right place-we always had everything we needed even if it was a couple minutes late. So as I rush out the door on a school day with my little one I find myself thinking of my Mom -I think I'll give her a call...later.

Me, too! It seems like there's a whole different time zone when there's a little one involved. The quick run to the store now takes 10 minutes of prep time, not to mention lugging the car seat in and out, then trying to juggle everything getting back into the house. Even taking the dog for her neighborhood walk takes longer. Do I have socks? Does Nicholas need a jacket? What about a hat? Sunscreen? Okay, good, let's go. Wait, where's the dog? Somebody go get the dog!
Just this morning, we left a whole 15 minutes earlier than usual to be on time. One stop by the store at 7 am to buy drinks for the daycare, and one forgotten lunch later, I was at work just in the nick of time! Three kids and a full time job equals chaos every morning. I am with you on this one!
