I love all the carols, because I like diversity. These presents are great, but my toddler is still very young and the only things suited for her are those pretty little clothes found on www.princessbowtique.net. I hope I'll catch the next contest in time, until then, my little one will actually pay more attention to what I say!
kjcharlson was chosen as the winner of the Francis Barry book giveaway!
Thanks everyone for playing along. Please keep checking back with Modmomsclub! There are more giveaways to come!
Me again. She's also not eligible, but my mom threw in her two cents' worth and I wanted to share (Mom is a freckle tech-challenged, so hers arrived via notepaper):
"I have two - can't separate - Away in a Manger and Hark the Herald Angels Sing."
She goes on to describe a class she taught in the 50s, when 60-70 5- and 6-year-olds dressed in tea towels and crepe paper sang around a manger. Then she talks of 20 years later, in the 1970s, "I see a tiny girl dressed in a tye-dyed shirt wtih gold tinsel poorly sewed around the edges, with a crooked halo (maybe a telling sign about adult years?)" - HEY! What are you saying, Mom? - "standing on stage. Maybe in both memories some sang too loudly or somewhat off-key, but I've never heard a choir sing these songs better."
Sweet memories, both. What I remember from that 1970s performance is my mom finding glitter in my hair during shampoos for weeks after, and muttering under her breath about whoever decided THAT was a good idea.
My favorite Christmas carol is "Mary, Did You Know"?
It always makes me cry. I feel like I can relate to Mary because she is a mom and I cannot imagine being the mother of Jesus.
I of course love all Christmas carols so it was difficult to pick just one!
I just love Silent Night...Holy Night...This song usually brings a tear to my eye. It just has a way of warming my heart. Merry Christmas to all!
When my kids were little, I loved to watch the annual church Christmas program. The youngest ones would always wear cute costumes and sing "Away in a Manger". There is something wonderful about the voices of children raised in song that touches the heart, especially at Christmastime.
My children are older now, and each has his or her own favorite Christmas carol. Over the years, I have come to love so many songs I've heard them sing, both as a family and in various productions.
But as I unpack the many years' worth of handmade ornaments each year, gazing at little "reindeer antler" handprints on burlap or the Sharpie-marker "stained glass", I am transported back in time. I hear echoes in my head of tiny voices singing a simple but heartfelt rendition of "Away in a Manger" from underneath tinsel and paper plate halos and cotton-ball sheep ears.
I'm sure my thoughtful children will choose wonderful gifts for me this year. But maybe in all the holiday bustle I can also convince them to sing "Away in a Manger" for me again, just once more...
I'm not eligible to win, but I just wanted to compliment you on the gorgeous model you have displaying your books. Is she a professional?
And for the record, my favorite Christmas carol is The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth by David Bowie and Bing Crosby. It came from a cheesy holiday special I don't even remember seeing, but the song is beautiful.
Those are the most well manicured hand I have ever seen! Thanks for being my hand model!
Obviously, I'm not eligible either BUT I'll share mine anyway. I love two songs. "What Child is This" always makes me cry. I think the words are so lovely and it really resonates with me. My other favorite isn't a carol at all but is an Amy Grant song called "Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)" (the song is in the top right corner). This song brings tears to my eyes too. It's the story of Mary, young, scared, pregnant, asking for help. It is so beautiful. As a mother this song touches me more than any other Christmas song.
Carol of the Bells, with its upbeat sound, is my favorite Christmas carol. Its uplifting message: "Christmas is here, bringing good cheer" fits in so well with Christmas lights shining brightly on people's homes, Christmas trees peeking through windows and the smiles on people's faces as they shop for food and gifts and make plans to get together with friends and family.
In the movie Home Alone, Kevin declares "I'm the Man of the House. I must defend it", and sets about to make life difficult for the bad guys. Carol of the Bells plays throughout the scene.
The Trans Siberian Orchestra also plays an awesome version!
I don't know if this is considered a Christmas Carol or not, but the song Breath of Heaven sung by Amy Grant, is an amazing song.
It talks about Mary being the one chosen to bring God's Son into the world, and how she doubts herself all along the way. She begs and pleads for God's help through out the whole song, and even at one point asks Him is somone else could have done it better than her.
It's a beautiful, and touching song, and I think it shows that while we might not think we're perfect, God has a plan for each and every one of us. It's definately something to 'hope' for.
Hugs & Kisses,
~Amanda
