Mother's Day celebration details...

Can hardly believe that it's May already and we are heading into Mother's Day weekend. I must say I was finding it a bit daunting to gear myself up for making the plans for the weekend. After all my youngest daughter and my oldest daughter and her boyfriend are making their way home and we certainly don’t want to spend our limited time together, lounging, no of course not, they are young and spirited so we’ll gather up my son, his girlfriend, their new daughter, my hubby and jump into fun.  The rest for the motherhood weary will come late on Sunday.

I decided an afternoon of bowling would be a nice activity and then a Saturday evening BBQ.  Sunday morning an outing for brunch, that way the travelers can all head home at a decent time on Sunday afternoon. Plans sounded nice, I just needed to find the time to research the details, i.e. make sure we could bowl on Saturday, check out the prices, find a place to eat our wonderful brunch and make the reservation.

Well, Wednesday rolled around and not one bit of information had been checked off the details list when a nice email arrived from my oldest daughter, Kristen. It was simple, direct and to the point… “What are you thinking we could do Mama on Saturday…all of us?  Throw me some ideas, I’ll organize.”

Here was my chance, my opportunity…did I take the high road and let her know that it was okay, I would do it or did I give into the temptation to let go and have my child plan the festivities…  maybe I needed to feel her out a bit more, test the waters so to speak.  So I replied with a short note laying out the proposed plans and letting her know I was going to get around to the details, hopefully soon...

Well, if I ever needed confirmation that Motherhood can be wonderful…it came in the form of her reply… “Bowling is available at McHenry Bowl for 4.50 (and another 4.00 for shoes) per person until 5 p.m. on Saturdays… I’ll tell Joey and Felicia to plan to meet us there around 2 in the afternoon….then we’ll all head back and BBQ. Then we’ll all head to Brunch at the Palms on Sunday…..I made us a reservation for 11:30 a.m.  Sound good!?!!?”

Daunting details detoured, plans perfected…sounds great!

That sounds like a perfect Mothers Day weekend. I'll bet your kids are only too happy to plan something for YOU for a change. I'm glad you let them. Enjoy! And watch out for the gutter balls...
