Not the Hair! Again.

What is it about girls cutting hair? And mine in particular?

It happened again.  This time it was my lovely Madeline and her lovely locks of white gold laying in chunks on the floor.  At least this time it wasn't on my watch.  It was on Grandma's clock this time.  (Give me a moment so I can blame someone else for a parenting faux pas).

I remember obsessing about cutting my Barbie's hair as a child.  One Barbie in particular became punk rock Barbie when I gave her a buzz cut in 3rd grade.  Did I want to grow up to be a hairstylist?  No. I just liked to mutilate my doll's hair.

There hasn't been a Van Diepen Barbie with with a haircut...ever, but both my girls have given themselves haircuts.

Asked why she did it, she responded she didn't know.  Isn't that always the response?  This time unlike the last time, there wasn't a laugh to stiffle.  I was furious and probably didn't respond as I should have.

Following in the footsteps of her sister, she trotted to the salon with me so that someone could do some damage control.  I told her we'd have to cut it pretty short but she wasn't phased.  She excitedly asked if she'd look like me.  (Sure, minus the gray roots and fake hair color of course!)

Chuckling to myself tonight, I looked at my baby with her new short bob and smiled.  Good thing she cut her hair, it looks much better now.

Yes, Paige now has bangs. Actually, some bangs, some long hair, some really, really, short hair.

She didn't cut her hair. She took a comb and twisted her hair all around it until it was stuck to her scalp. We tried for almost two hours to free her hair from that comb. At 9:30 p.m. last night, the comb won.

I cried. Paige yawned and went to bed.

This morning, I did the best I could to comb it to the side. Tonight she has an appt.

I guess it could be worse. Our girls could have shaved their eyebrows. I guess I better not give them any ideas.

Shaved eyebrows who in their right mind would shave their eyebrows they almost never grow back ok well maybe they do but from what i've seen they take forever to come back and people look so weird with no eyebrows and worse with fake ones drawn on with eye liner. You cant get a wig for your eyebrows why why why shave them?

Oh my goodness, I feel your pain! I did this to myself so many times as a child I hindered my children's growth and development...at least that is what one school psychologist told me once.

Here is what I wrote once about my own experience with this:

Here's to hoping your sweet girl's hair grows back very quickly.

You weren't kidding.  You do feel my pain!  Your daughter did a number on her hair, more drastic than mine.

I never allowed scissors in the house either and then I was told that my oldest needed to work on scissor work hence, I allowed them and then they both cut their hair.
