Oh goody, I win again!
My kid can't read.
At least that's what I immediately thought when a friend told me her niece, who is several months younger than my soon-to-be-kindergartener, was reading site words.
WHAT? My brain yelled but I remained calm on the exterior. My kid is 9 months older and she can't read one site word. And I don't count mom, dad, abby, maddie, and love.
I began mentally beating myself. What a horrible mother I am. I'm clearly not working with my kid enough. Does making her read the weather temps to me from the back of Local News in The Bee count as working with her? Probably not.
I became so obsessed with the fact that I believed Maddie couldn't read site words that we pulled out a list of site words and made flash cards.
Much to my surprise, as we flashed cards, she got about half of them, no coaching!
YES! My kid can read!
WHAT? My kid can read and I had no idea??? What kind of mother am I? How did I not know this?
GREAT! I've won worst mom ever...again.
