An open and shut case
I came home from work yesterday to find Nicholas and Grandma, happily chattering away (Wednesdays are my mom's day to watch the baby). "Hey, watch this," she said. She picked up the musical school bus my friend Joan gave Nicholas for his birthday - which he adores, by the way - and said, "Open." Sure enough, Nicholas opens the door. Then she said "Shut" and he closed it. Then she said "Now the back door." And he did it! Clearly the most brilliant one-year-old around.
It occurred to me - I spend every free minute with this kid and do little more productive than babble back and forth and play with toys. My mom spends an afternoon with him and teaches him a whole new concept. It's a good thing he has her around - left to me, he'd enter college with little more than, "Dat? Dat, dat, dat."

This is such a nice post. It helps to let me, as a new grandmother, know that I will definitely have input into the lives of my grandkids...gotta go buy the bus!
