Preschool jitters
We're looking into preschool options these days. With Nicholas turning 3 - already! - our plan is to start him a couple of days a week in the fall. I'm fairly certain he's ready. And I'm fairly certain I'm not.
My husband talks about taking the girls to school for the first time 16 years ago. He did great until he got home ... and there weren't two little girls tripping him up as he tried to unlock the door. And then there weren't two little girls with whom to discuss the breakfast possibilities (then, as now, he worked nights and spent the day with the twins). He'd lost his "team".
I think I'm going to have the same problem. Just the other day, Nicholas was at his buddy's house next door and I got lonely. Not that he doesn't spend time away from me every day while I'm at work or he's hanging out with Dad or his sisters when they're home. But this was different: I was home alone and my little buddy was with someone else. Not to mention that it seemed appropriate to take advantage of the time by putting away laundry and vaccuuming ... ugh.
So as fall approaches and we winnow down the preschool possibilities, I'm going to try to steel myself. It wouldn't be the first time teachers had to deal with a screaming, crying and clinging mess. But it might be the first time it's the mom they have to pry away.
