preschool problems
My 4 yr old tells me he doesn't like preschool. He only goes 2 days a week for 3.5 hrs. Once he's there and I am gone, the teacher says he does fine. But even discussing school at home makes him upset and he starts complaining that he doesn't want to go back. Anyone have any advice on how to make this easier on him? I am a stay at home mom, so he has always been with me and a little to attached.

I am so glad that the troops will be enjoying something in the midst of war. I would however like to remind you that there is also a war being fought in Afganistan and I am sure that those soldiers would appreciate some recognition as well.

Hi Tracy,
What I've found is that they need something to keep them entertained in pre-school. My sisters kid absolutely hated going to pre-school and would rather stay at home watching movies (pixar anyone). A few weeks back, after upgrading her best bluray player, she donated her sony s380 bluray player to his pre-school and lo and behold he started looking forward to going to pre-school.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't just the movies, but at least there was something familiar for him which allowed him the gentle urge to start mixing in.
This is a smart blog. I mean it. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion.

hdl cholesterol levels
HDL level below forty milligram results in the increased of the coronary artery disease even when people whose whole cholesterol as well as LDL cholesterol level is normal. HDL level between forty and sixty milligram is considered normal. On the other hand, HDL level greater than sixty milligram may usually protect individuals from the heart disease. Certainly, for several years, physicians have known when this comes to the HDL level; the higher would be the better.

Helping your child adjust to preschool now will make it much easier when he starts Kindergarten. I agree with what Melissa said that it will take longer since it is only a few days a week. How long has it been? Here are some things to remember for helping your child get used to going to school.
1. Establish a routine for going to school. Your child needs to feel that everything is O.K. and normal. Make up a regular routine of putting their things in a specific place and saying the goodbyes the same way each morning. This will help your child accept going to school as part of their routine sooner. Hopefully the preschool has a regular routine so find out what the schedule is and help him to learn it by going through it with him. For instance say, first you are going to have playtime, art time, play outside, have circle time, eat lunch, and then, Mommy will come and take you home! Children feel more secure and in control when they always know what will happen next.
2. Remember that your child will feed off your emotions so remember to control YOUR reaction. Make sure you are cheerful, confident and act as if everything is normal during all of your discussions with your child about preschool and at drop off. Reassure them in a calm tone that everything is all right and that you will be back to get them when school is over. Dont linger at drop off. Long farewells give your child time to work themselves up to a high level of angst. Again, be calm, reassuring and brief. Before long your child will have happily adjusted and will enjoy the new friendships and experiences they will have!

I too have had problems with our 2yr old in daycare. And to boot she actually was kicked out 4 months ago so she is with me at home. I am unemployed at the moment so it is saving money and I too am trying to get her try to adjust to be with other kids and not to act out which is why she was let go. Terrible two's put aside, when she gets angry or frustrated she kicks or hits and we can't seem to break her yet of this. Also, her favorite words are NO and I DONT WANT TO - sheesh! Daddy an I are up to our ears at this point as I am currently looking for work and need to get her into another program or babysitter soon. Any suggestions to help this along?! Thanks Sandy
Geez, I don't check this sight often enough. I'm so tired by the time I put my kids to bed all I want to do is lay on the couch! Everyones suggestions have been great, when Iwent to pick my son up today he didn't want to leave! All I can tell you is hang in there. Three's are difficult also but nothing like the terrible two's! I was pregnant and miserable when my oldest was two, which only magnified the tantrums. My suggestion to you is do whatever you can to get her around kids her age, I did'nt and my four yr old is having problems socializing with other kids. He just doesn't know how to react to them, he's only been around adults or older children. Preschool seems to be helping a lot, so find a good one that you are comfortable with, and, have you tried time outs? Two is when I started them with my son and they helped with the outbursts tremendously. He was in time out a lot!
If so, I think you need to give it more time for him to adjust. It is a HUGE adjustment for kids. It might take longer to make the adjustment since it is only a few days a week that he is there.
Hang in there! My favorite mantra is "This too shall pass".
Thanks! He went today and it does seem to slowly be getting better. I really think he needs a lot of help in learning how to make friends and dealing with other kids, which I am trying to help him with. All I can think is, do I have to do this all over again when kindergarten starts?!
It will all be good when he starts Kindergarten...he will be a pro by then! This is one of those things that nobody prepares you for when you have kids. I never thought I'd stress about preschool stuff.
