Even though I'm always exhausted at work being a write writer, I still try to act as the good cop in our family, I learned a lot from my mother and I like to follow her good examples.
I feel like I am always bad cop and it is exhausting! I am always saying no, no, no to all the fun stuff like soda and candy. I try to find ways to say yes but some days it's hard.
Well, since mine kids are all grown up, and hopefully don't need policing anymore. I can only say from their younger days that I was more the bad cop. Not that they were in need of a cop, but I tended to be the one with all the questions, where you going, who's going, what time will you be home, who's driving, etc. Maybe that's why they seemed to always have places to go and things to do while I was gone, a much easier escape!
My husband and I are pretty committed to presenting a united front with the kids, so when "situations" arise, we stick together, even if we privately disagree a bit. We may continue to discuss the issue in private and adjust our approach with the kid later, but they know we are a "team" and it won't do any good to try one parent over the other!
