"A-too!"
"A-too!" This is Nicholas-speak for "Your turn!" And as much as I admire his eagerness to share experiences, this has led me to everything from clambering on playground equipment meant for much smaller - and more agile - people to eating toast tinged with the flavor of dirt (a result of this morning's "It's such a beautiful day, let's have breakfast outside" adventure).
We were a trifle worried about the boy's language development, but it suddenly seems to be rolling right along. Like his sister Emily years ago (Hannah pretty much always sounded like a 35-year-old), he has trouble with some sounds: "Park" is "Cark", "Nanu" is "Nudge" (which is what we call a pacifier in our house - not sure why) and the beloved "Toothbrush" is still "foofbush." Pretty much the only words he gets spot-on are "cake" and "Elmo" which should tell you about the kid's priorities. Oh, and he's taken to calling me by my first name, echoing his father. "Pad-dee!"
It's charming and it gets me every time. So whatever you've got, Nicholas, I'm up for "A-too."

Here were some of my personal faves when I was that little:
An elbow was a "row-nut."
Something dangerous was actually "gem-in-ess."
