Vaccines and Autism

When I was about 6 months pregnant with my first child, my husband and I were having dinner at a restaurant when we ran into a co-worker of my husband's.  She seemed like a nice enough woman but I was completely caught off guard when she cornered me about vaccines.  I hadn't really given it much thought.  Doesn't everyone vaccinate their children?

This was my first brush with parents who don't vaccinate their kids.  This woman, like many others out there, believes that vaccines are harmful and downright dangerous for children.

A special federal court today ruled today that there is no connection between childhood vaccines and Autism.  Although they still haven't given a ruling on older, mercury-laden vaccines.

Jenny McCarthy was just on The Oprah Winfrey show touting the connection between childhood vaccinations and Autism.  She has a 5-year-old son who is, in her words, recovering from Autism.  She believes there is a credible link.

I'm not so sure.  I've had both my girls vaccinated and they are growing into healthy young girls.  And while those in the medical community are happy with this ruling,  I think it is doubtful it will give parents who believe in the link pause to rethink their stand.
