What example are we setting?

I don't know what's more ridiculous, the fact that there are people who are so incensed that President Obama would address school children tomorrow that they are encouraging people to hold their children out of school or the fact the Modesto City Schools felt they needed to issue an automated phone call to the home of all district students alerting them that teachers would decide individually if they would show the speech in their classroom.

So much for hoping we've entered a new era.  I wonder how many of these paranoid parents and political operatives actually read the speech before they began grandstanding about its socialist agenda.

I read the speech and you can read it too, here.

I'm at a loss to see any agenda with this speech except to challenge our kids to work hard and do their best in school.

It saddens me that the political rhetoric in this country has escalated to this level. And it frustrates me that my own school district played into the paranoia by issuing a robo call about it.

Exactly, what example are we trying to set for our children?  If it's civil discourse then we are failing miserably.  If it's paranoia, then we are exceeding the expectations.
